OH FRICK. Inspired by the sounds of Italo-Disco and classic 80s soundtracks, this collection of synth jams has all the RADITUDE you need for your next high-stakes training montage / roof-top dance off / motorcycle ride into the sunset. Cowardly betrayers, beware.
These songs started out as part of a soundtrack I did for a short film called Samurai Sword. The music is inspired by classic 80s film music (Vangelis, John Carpenter) and the sounds of Italo-Disco (Giorgio Moroder). I loved doing the score so much that I extended a bunch of the songs and put together a 5 song EP. I used mostly hardware synths for this, and during the recording sessions, I only wore leg-warmers and sunglasses.
In the film, a down and out loser buys a cursed samurai sword in hopes of unlocking its power and changing his fate for good. I think of this album as the soundtrack that plays in the characters head. It's a neon-lit power fantasy as he imagines remaking the world and vanquishing his foes. Think "Eye of the Tiger", if Rocky were a schlubby, manga-reading hipster with a cursed samurai sword. It's a bit tongue in cheek, but I wanted the music to be un-ironically fun, joyful, and danceable. I hope it makes you feel good.
I love this record so much, have had it on repeat for weeks. It's a concise EP, but feels like an expansive journey from a classic jungle sound to something warmer, more melodic and human. Gravity Proof
